Official Bio

KC is a first-generation Garifuna-Honduran poet and designer. He is currently studying Industrial Design and Latino studies at the University of Notre Dame.

Born in Honduras but moved to New Orleans, Louisiana at the age of 10. KC, just like several other immigrants in the United States, has faced a lot of hardships and discrimination. Not only is KC an immigrant in the United States but he is also Afro-Latino. But despite the stereotypes, KC aspired to succeed.  “Yo soy quien yo soy, y mientras Dios sepa quien yo soy, yo estoy bien”, meaning, “I am who I am, and as long as God knows who I am, I’m good”.

KC has been writing poetry since middle school but he got deeper into his work during his junior year of high school. However, it wasn’t until his first year in college that KC began to perform his poetry. KC draws inspiration from his personal experiences, what he sees around him, and how he might be feeling at a certain stage in his life.
